Biography

Allaei’s international education experience spans more than 30 years. Upon earning her undergraduate degree in English/secondary education from Salisbury University (B.A., 1982), she completed a three-year English teaching assignment in a community-based adult education program in Beni Suef, Egypt. A graduate teaching appointment in Indiana University Bloomington’s Intensive English Program followed, along with a degree in applied linguistics (M.A., 1986). In 1987, she joined the IUPUI Department of English as the first full-time lecturer in IUPUI’s nascent ESL Program (now the English for Academic Purposes Program).

Since transitioning to the IUPUI Office of International Affairs in 1991 as assistant director for services, Allaei has held a variety of positions, all focused on services to IUPUI’s international community, advancing campus capacity for international enrollment, and contributing more broadly to IUPUI’s international engagement.

Originally from Maryland, Sara is married to Manochehr Allaei, also a longtime IUPUI employee. Their son Kiyan is pursuing a Purdue University degree in computer and information science at IUPUI.
