Biography

Rita Koryan, as assistant vice president, represents international affairs in its external relations with international donors and alumni, and with foreign governments and universities.

Koryan works with the IU Foundation and IU Alumni Association on development and alumni activities, provides strategic planning and logistical guidance for deans and their senior staff undertaking new initiatives to support key priorities of the IU International Strategic Plan, advances collaborations with international partners, and participates in planning for IU presidential delegations abroad.

Before coming to Bloomington, Koryan worked in several international capacities at Northwestern University. Since 2014, she has coordinated international development efforts for the College of Arts and Sciences, with responsibilities that include advancement, fundraising, strategic planning, and programming to open new opportunities for international educational experiences and research collaborations.

In addition to her experiences across multiple areas of international activities at top research universities in Turkey and the United States, Koryan completed a professional program in philanthropic studies at Northwestern. She holds two advanced degrees—one in political science and international relations, from Boğaziçi University, an important IU institutional partner in Istanbul, Turkey; and another in conflict analysis and resolution, from Sabanci University.
