Design collaborative, assessment-driven classroom projects with international partners and global learning professionals.

Program overview

The Global Teaching & Learning Academy (GTLA) supports faculty to design virtual, project-based learning experiences that pair IU classes with courses taught by faculty at universities worldwide. Participants will join a multi-campus cohort, participate in guided online workshops, and co-design a shared classroom project with an international partner.

  • Build your teaching portfolio and earn the Global Learning for IU Educators Certificate
  • Receive a $750 stipend ($250 after Phase 1; $500 upon completing Phases 2 & 3)

Program structure & timeline

  • Friday, February 20, 2–4 PM — Foundations of Global Learning
  • Friday, March 6, 2–4 PM — Foundations of Virtual Global Learning
  • Friday, March 27, 2–4 PM — Finding and Working with an International Partner

  • April – June: Identify an international partner for your course (we’ll help get you started).
  • Summer Workshops: Focus areas include collaborative project design, assessment, and virtual learning technologies, and more.
    • Wednesday, June 24, 10 AM–Noon
    • Wednesday, July 15, 10 AM–Noon
    • Wednesday, August 12, 10 AM–Noon

  • Deliver your virtual global learning project in a Fall 2026, Spring 2027 or Summer 2027 course.
  • Administer a student learning assessment (survey provided)
  • Submit:
    • A one-page project summary
    • Final course syllabus
    • At least one project artifact to share with future faculty. This may include a lesson plan, assignment, or student work sample.

All Phase 1 + 2 meetings are online. Participants complete 1–2 hours of flipped learning before each session.

Eligibility & selection

Open to full-time, permanent faculty of any rank teaching courses in 2026/2027 at any IU campus. Preference given to faculty who have not participated in a Global Learning Cohort in the past 3+ years.
