For many of you, international study and research are integral components of your academic training and professional development. Recognizing the importance of these opportunities, the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs (OVPIA) offers a variety of competitive grants and programs for graduate students from any discipline, department, or campus at IU.
We encourage you to explore the following opportunities in consultation with your home department graduate advisor or director of graduate studies, who can offer you academic advising tailored to your particular program.
Summer Pre-Dissertation Grants
Deadline: March 1, 2019, for Summer 2019 Funding
Travel abroad for the summer to conduct pre-dissertation research. Activities supported include exploring potential research sites, archives, or other research resources; establishing institutional affiliations; and identifying and meeting local scholars and contacts.
International Enhancement Grants
Deadline: March 1, 2019, for Summer and Fall 2019 Pursue academic training that adds or enhances an international component of your graduate program. Eligible activities include language classes and other degree-relevant classes not available at IU, a directed internship program, and workshops or seminars of at least two weeks in duration.
International Exchange Programs for Fall 2020/Spring 2021 Deadline: Application opens in early Fall 2019 Spend a semester or academic year abroad doing independent research at a partner university in China, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Poland, South Korea, Thailand, or the U.K. (Participants selected for programs in Germany and South Korea may also have the option to enroll in courses.) Applications are accepted during the Fall semester only, for participation the following academic year.
