The Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs in collaboration with the Dhar India Studies Program takes 17 undergraduate students to India on an interdisciplinary short-term study abroad program. Students start the program on the IU Bloomington campus during the second 8-week of the Spring semester, followed by a 2-week overseas study component in India in May.
The group will travel to Delhi, Agra, Varanasi and Mumbai including a program orientation at the IU India Gateway office, which will include engagement with local students and a guest lecturer. At the end of the class and trip, students should have in-depth and experiential knowledge of India’s contemporary social structures and cultures, and its recent experiences of social justice, including Dalit empowerment movements, anti-discrimination legislation, NGO-based development, corporate responsibility and its relation to both urban and rural environment issues.
