The Lorca Archive in a New Chapter: Reflections, Challenges and New Horizons

Lorca symposium - official program

A Symposium in Celebration of the Historic Move of the Fundación Federico García Lorca Archive to Granada

Morning session: 8:30am-12:00pm (pre-recorded); afternoon session: 12:00pm-2:30pm (live)

This symposium celebrates the historic move of the archive of modernist writer, Federico García Lorca, from the Fundación Federico García Lorca, now in the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, to the Centro Lorca in Granada. It will take advantage of such a unique moment to offer a necessary and substantial reflection on the Lorca Archive itself, providing a space for a multi-faceted discussion on the past, present, and future of the extensive and diverse collection of manuscripts, letters, first editions, library, visual art, clothing and more. Given the importance of Lorca’s legacy nationally and internationally, this event will bring together a range of voices from both Spain and the U.S.: specialists who have worked in the archive for years; librarians who will now be charged with the archive’s conservation, preservation and curation; and specialists who study Lorca’s work and/or can help rethink the making public of archives and iconic figures. Through formal papers and discussions with the public, the symposium aims to offer reflections on the nature of the archive and its present situation, its impact on the image and study of Lorca, and projects that might increase its visibility and potential to engage the public in the future. In this sense, the event looks to celebrate the start of a new chapter in the archive’s life and turn our gaze toward new challenges and horizons.

The symposium will be streamed via YouTube and is open to both specialists and the general public alike. For more information please contact symposium organizer Melissa Dinverno, Associate Professor, Indiana University mdinvern@indiana.edu
