Learn about our services

The Europe Gateway provides a variety of services for IU faculty, staff, and students in support of their in-person or virtual projects and activities.

Gateway staff can assist them in the following three main areas:

  1. Research workshops, conferences, and symposia held at the Gateway or in the facilities of our partner CIEE on whose campus we are located in Berlin
  2.  Faculty-led study-abroad programs
  3.  Virtual exchanges and learning and other virtual events

IU faculty can use the Gateway space free of charge once arrangements have been made through OVPIA and the Europe Gateway. There are two rooms available within the Gateway office suite, however most of the workshops we host are held in rooms located in a different part of the building complex and are under control and management of our partner CIEE. We have an understanding with CIEE that IU can utilize certain rooms when available. For detailed descriptions of the rooms, including capacity & setup, visit 'our facilities'.

Those seeking financial support for their in-person events can apply for the Global Gateway Grant or one of the other international resources administered by the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs.

OVPIA typically transfers grant funds to the home department of the recipient faculty member who then assumes responsibility for administering the funds with their fiscal officer. If additional support is needed, particularly for larger events, we recommend engaging IU conferences to facilitate travel bookings and payments.

Please note that the Europe Gateway does not have its own funds to support event-related expenses such as catering, travel or honoraria, and can only provide limited support with payments.
