This course supports teacher candidates in developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to design culturally and linguistically sustaining curricula, instruction, and learning environments for multilingual learners/English Language Learners (ELLs). Candidates will design lesson plans that: (1) draw on students’ funds of knowledge as a learning resource for all; (2) develop students’ language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while (3) developing academic content area knowledge. Candidates will learn to engage the Indiana Academic Standards, WIDA English Language Development standards, TESOL and CAEP Standards for Teacher Preparation – in guiding their development of effective curricula and instruction in general education classrooms.
