Fall 2021 | EDUC-L239
EDUC-L239 is an introductory general education course that introduces pre-service teacher candidates to concepts of language and literacy in the context of schooling. While discussing language attitudes and beliefs, the class explores bilingualism, multilingualism, and plurilingualism while also building background knowledge in concepts of language that germane to language acquisition (verb systems, formality scales, …). Students complete a service project in coordination with the course, usually interacting regularly with English learners or young learners in tutoring or conversational practice settings. Students also interview language learners to discover their individual experiences with adapting to using a language and literacy learning.
