The Australian National University is a world-leading research-led university located in Australia's capital city, Canberra. ANU prides itself on educating global citizens and future leaders and is a leading contributor to public policy formation and debate in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
The university is comprised of seven academic colleges housing a number of schools and research centres that specialise in a range of disciplines and consistently rank among the world’s finest in education and research. Research
As Australia’s national university, its research priorities address the challenges facing both Australia and the world. The university is committed to engaging in research that builds a stronger future for all. Current ANU initiatives include:
- 3A Institute: The Autonomy, Agency and Assurance (3A) Institute is the first ANU Innovation Institute, with a mission to create a new applied science to ensure the safe and ethical development of new cyber-physical systems.
- ANU Institute for Space (InSpace): Providing a single point of entry for all ANU space research, in partnership with the new Australian Space Agency.
- Australian Social Cohesion: Exploring New Directions: Strengthening social cohesion for the prosperity and wellbeing of all Australians
- National Centre for Indigenous Studies: Enriching the scholarly and public understanding of Australian Indigenous cultures and histories.
- National Security College: A unique partnership between the University and the Australian Government.
- Our Health in Our Hands: A strategic initiative that aims to transform healthcare by developing new personalised health technologies and solutions in collaboration with patients, clinicians and health care providers.
- Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific: Underpinning transformation in the way Australia trades with the world and specifically with the Asia-Pacific – based on renewable energy.
Engagement with IU
Indiana University and the Australian National University have been formal partners with multiple points of engagement since 2009.
- The Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies and the Australian National University College of Asia and the Pacific jointly run the ANU-IU Pan Asia Institute (PAI). Since 2010, the two universities engage in exchanges of faculty, scholars, administrators, graduate students, and undergraduates, as well as collaborate on activities including language instruction and joint symposia and workshops.
- The IUB College of Arts and Sciences and the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences have a formal faculty exchange program.
- The Arts Administration program at the O’Neill School of the Public and Environmental Affairs has a dual masters degree with ANU's College of Arts and Social Sciences. Students can receive both a Master of Arts in Arts Administration (MAAA) degree from O’Neill and a Master of Arts in Museum and Heritage Studies (MHS) degree from ANU.
- The IU Office of Overseas Study and the Australian National University have an undergraduate student exchange program.
- This agreement serves as a framework for cooperation between IU's Cybersecurity Program and the Australian National University's Cyber Institute.
- IU's O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the Crawford School of Public Policy at ANU have a graduate student exchange.
- The IUB School of Public Health and the College of Health and Medicine at the ANU have a graduate student exchange program.
