The agreement was renewed in July 2014 and again in November 2019 for another five year period. Since 2009, significant activity has occurred: (1) Secured more than US$300,000 for research conferences, publications, and a research portal for multiple audiences interested in the history of Western medicine in China. (2) Developed the "Teach Abroad" study abroad program for IU students at Peking University's School of Foundational Education. Three IU students in the School of Liberal Arts' M.A. Teaching English as a Second Language Program have gone to Peking University, and two students are in training for the Teach Abroad program, one for fall 2014 and the other for spring 2015. (3) Collaborated on a pilot project by a research team in China on health literacy and medical adherence of Chinese diabetes patients, based on interview protocols adapted from International Center for Intercultural Communication research. An article was submitted for publication, and a staff member from Peking University was a visiting scholar on the IUPUI campus in 2013-1014 during which time the scholar collaborated on research and helped develop a funding proposal. (4) IU School of Social Work successfully offered its Study Abroad course "China & U.S. Health Care Issues: A Cross-Cultural Comparison" in 2010, 2011, and 2012 to IUPUI students who were joined by Peking University students in an intensive three-week course.
The renewed agreement with an effective date of November 1, 2019, has not been fully executed. Inquires about this agreement should be directed to the IU School of Liberal Arts (+1-317-274-4755).
