Spring 2021 | HON H-237
This 8-week HHC course compares how societies come to grips with histories scarred by colonialism, slavery, and white supremacy. Using the U.S. South and South Africa as case studies, we will explore how contests over commemoration, monuments, heritage sites, memorials, and museums contribute to an understanding of a traumatic past and, potentially, pave the way for racial reconciliation in the future.
