FLAME University has been established as a state-private university in 2014 in Pune and is a pioneer of Liberal Education in India. The objective of Liberal Education at FLAME goes beyond the known and familiar structured and narrowly encapsulated forms of knowledge. The focus is on experiencing and learning through self-reflection and self-discovery, freeing themselves from the traditional ways of looking at things and challenging themselves, society, and the world at large. The institution hopes to fire the imagination of students to discover the magic and passion in themselves, to foster their creativity, to propel their innovativeness and determination to create, build and shape new enterprises.
FLAME University is spread across 60 acres of green expanse and has five schools: FLAME School of Liberal Education, FLAME School of Business, FLAME School of Communication, FLAME School of Computing & Data Sciences, and FLAME School of Design, Art & Performance. It hosts seven fully functional, research-oriented, and dedicated centers that continuously endeavor to translate the University’s commitment to academic prestige through higher quality research. The Centre for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Centre for Earth & Environment, Centre for Case Development are some of the centers providing students with interdisciplinary training and experiences.

Research
As an institution of higher learning, FLAME University lays significant focus on the role and status of research as the central theme of all academic activity. It is the pursuit of research excellence that determines and shapes the academic aspirations of faculty and students at the University. Taking up challenging assignments and projects, and seeking solutions through research-based education, is relentlessly encouraged. The teaching excellence of the faculty at FLAME University is adequately complemented by the rigor in research. The faculty at FLAME University is dedicated to guiding students to incorporate research into their academic programs. Faculty constantly assist students in accessing research opportunities as well as providing instruction on research methodologies and areas of research focus.
Engagement with IU
Indiana University has signed a primary agreement with FLAME University in 2017.
IU's Kelley School of Business also has a sub-agreement with FLAME University that establishes undergraduate student exchanges, short-term undergraduate visiting student programs and short-term faculty interactions/exchanges. Recent engagement includes a 2018 workshop on ‘Case Teaching’ and IU faculty participating in the webinar on ‘Identifying New Ways of to Generate Revenue’ in 2020.
In November 2021, faculty from the IUI School of Science conducted a virtual workshop on ‘Drugs and the Brain’ for undergraduate students at FLAME University.
