Renmin University of China (RUC) is a comprehensive research university focusing on humanities and social sciences while offering a range of popular programs innatural sciences, information technology and environmental sciences.
As the first comprehensive research university established by the People’s Republic of China, RUC’s history is traced back to Shanbei Public Academy founded in 1937. The university has been consistently recognized as one of the top institutions in humanities and social sciences in China. 14 disciplines of RUC made it onto the list of the “double first-class” initiative and 9 were ranked A+ by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Home to 33 schools and over 200 research institutes, RUC is dedicated to educating students who can serve as examples to the community and pillars of the society.

Research
Renmin University of China is home to over 200 research institutes, among which 13 are key research bases on humanities and social sciences of the Chinese MOE. The university’s top research areas include economics, law, international relations, demography, journalism and communication.
Engagement with IU
- Renmin University of China and Indiana University have a close partnership with a focus on research collaboration. A strategic seed fund has been established to support faculty in both universities who seek to pursue external funding for research projects and teaching initiatives from national and international research councils or public and private institutions investing in research.
- The McKinney School of Law and Renmin Law School partnerships includes the development of (1) the Chinese Law Summer Program; (2) the Joint Center for Asian Law Studies, a joint research project; (3) the law journal, Frontiers of Law in China, a peer reviewed academic journal that publishes original papers in English; (4) the judicial education and exchange program; (5) the visiting faculty and visiting scholar exchange program; (6) the creation of student exchange programs, and (7) the International Forum for Law Students.
