Sungkyunkwan University is a private comprehensive research university in South Korea. It was originally founded as a royal Confucian academy in at the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty in 1398, making it the oldest university in East Asia.
The university has two campuses housing its 18 schools and colleges, the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus located inside Seoul's original city wall, and the modern Natural Sciences Campus located in Suwon.
SKKU is one of three universities in Korea chosen to receive government funding to establish an Artificial Intelligence Graduate School, which opened in 2019.
A global university, SKKU enrolls over 4,000 international degree-seeking students and offers more than 30 dual degree programs with institutions abroad.

Research
SKKU has numerous research institutes across a broad range of fields, including in their key research areas: East Asian Studies, Medicine, Information & Communication, Engineering, Nanotechnology, and Bioscience and Bioengineering.
In 2021, SKKU researchers published more than 6,000 research publications with 13.6 citation per paper. The total research funding amounted to $452.3 million, with $333.9 million in government funding.
Engagement with IU
SKKU and IU have been formal partners since 2018. Their relationship has strengthened over the years and has become one of IU's most successful university-wide partnerships. There are multiple agreements between SKKU and IU units, including the Kelley School of Business, Maurer School of Law, and College of Arts and Sciences, establishing student exchanges and as dual degree programs
