Founded in 1882, Waseda University is a top Japanese private research university located in central Tokyo. With 22 graduate schools spread across its eight campuses, Waseda is renowned as a first-class university. There are 2,000 researchers covering a wide range of fields including humanities, social sciences, science and engineering. A global university, Waseda offers seven graduate and fourteen undergraduate programs with degrees in English, as well as 21 double degree programs with 11 universities abroad.

Research
Waseda University has 34 research centers and received ¥12.4 billion ($90 million) in external funding for research in 2020. The university has started several iniatives to increase industry-academia-government collaboration and to promote international joint research.
Engagement with IU
- Indiana University has initiated a partnership with Waseda University, its sole university partner in Tokyo, in 2012. One year later, to facilitate collaboration among faculties, the universities established a faculty exchange program.
- The Kelley School of Business has entered into a graduate student exchange agreement with the Waseda School of Business in 2017.
- IU’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Affairs has an student exchange program with Waseda University.
