Indiana University and the University of Tehran entered into a Letter of Understanding in December 2002. Subsequently, the School of Engineering and Technology pursued a dual degree agreement in 2009 with University of Tehran's Faculty of Engineering to facilitate the transfer of University of Tehran undergraduates to IU Indianapolis for purposes of completing requirements for the B.S. degree from University of Tehran and the M.S. degree from Purdue University through IU Indianapolis. The combined undergraduate and graduate program requires six years of full-time study, with the first two years of undergraduate study completed at University of Tehran and the remaining years at IU Indianapolis.
