Indiana University established a relationship with University of Pretoria in 2002, collaborating on a training project in legislative drafting funded by the U.S. State Department. The affiliation was expanded and formalized with the signing of a primary partnership agreement in 2004. The Kelley School of Business and the University of Pretoria's Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) signed an agreement in 2013 during the visit of IU President Michael McRobbie and Kelley School Dean Idie Kesner. The agreement lays a foundation for collaboration on study abroad and experiential learning projects, particularly for business students to consult with small and mid-size businesses in Johannesburg.
